Editing guide
How to run this site without a developer
Everything a practice manager needs to keep Bailey up to date. Ten minutes to read, and it stays in the project so you can always come back to it. This page is hidden from search engines.
Contents
Editing content in the CMS
Practice Areas, Situations, People, Insights, Offices, Testimonials and Credentials are all CMS collections. Open the CMS panel on the left of the editor, choose a collection and click any item to edit it.
Adding an item adds it everywhere it is listed. Deleting one removes it everywhere. You never need to touch the canvas to change content.
Each collection has an Order field. Lower numbers appear first.
Adding a situation to the Matter Finder
Open the Situations collection and click New. Write the situation the way a client would say it, for example “My landlord won’t return my deposit”.
Choose the Practice Area it belongs to and, optionally, the solicitor who usually handles it. Add a sentence of helper text that reassures the visitor and tells them what happens next.
Tick Show On Home to feature it in the strip under the home page opening. Six show at a time, in Order.
Leave the Practice Area blank for a catch-all such as “I’m not sure, I just need advice”. The result panel will hide the practice area and simply invite them to book.
Adding a solicitor
Open People and click New. Upload a portrait at least 800 pixels wide, ideally a calm, well-lit photograph on a plain background.
Tick every practice area they work in. Their profile lists those areas, and each practice area page lists them automatically.
Insights can be attributed to an author. Their profile shows everything they have written.
Publishing an insight
Open Insights and click New. The Body field is rich text: use Heading 2 for main sections and Heading 3 for sub-sections, and the site styles them for you.
Set the Practice Area so the article appears on the matching practice area page and the topic filter. Set an Excerpt of one or two sentences; it appears on cards and in search results.
Set the item to Published when it is ready. Drafts never appear on the live site.
Changing colours and fonts
Open the Assets panel and choose Styles. Every colour is a Colour Style with a light and a dark value, and every text treatment is a Text Style. Change the value once and it updates everywhere.
To rebrand, change Accent, Paper, Ink and the two heading font families. Nothing else is required.
The Style Guide page shows every style in use so you can check the result.
The consultation form
The form on the Contact page sends submissions to the email address set in Site Settings, under Forms. Set that first.
When a visitor arrives from the Matter Finder, the Situation field is pre-filled from the link, so you know why they are getting in touch before you reply.
The Submit Button component has Loading, Success and Error variants. Edit their text in the Assets panel.
Pages you can delete
The Style Guide and Editing Guide pages are for editors only and are hidden from search engines. You can delete them once you are comfortable, or keep them for the next person.
The 404 page is shown for any address that does not exist. Keep it.
